Privately-owned utilities are owned by the property owner and often run from a home to an individual system or structure on the property. Private lines are considered the responsibility of the property owner and may require a private utility locator to identify these lines. Private lines can often include:

Service Lines
Utility service lines are the pipes, wires and cables that connect a property to the main public utilities for services like water, natural gas, sewer, electricity, and communications. These lines can be buried underground or suspended overhead and are responsible for bringing services into a home or taking wastewater out. They run from the main supply line in the street or on the pole to the point where they enter a property structure. Typically, service lines are considered to be the responsibility of the property owner and may require a private utility locator to identify these lines.
Getting Utilities Located Beyond 8-1-1
Before starting any digging or ground-disturbing activity, as defined by Ohio Revised Code 3781.25-28, please notify OHIO811. This allows utility owners and operators who are registered with the 811 service to mark their underground lines with paint or flags.

For added safety, consider contacting a private utility locating company, especially if you suspect privately installed lines or service lines on your property. Below is a list of OHIO811 member private utility locators:
